Sir Ogami's Viking Spoon

10th Century Viking Horn Spoon
This Viking spoon was made as gift for Viscount Sir Haakon. I researched period examples, and this one varies from them in that the handle is flared, which I did to accomodate the carving his double-headed axe. It's made from a cow's horn that was cut and steamed into shape, and then buffed on a wheel. The runes on the handle spell out 'Haakonen', which means 'Haakon's.' (With thanks to Master Tofi for the Norse grammar lesson.)
It was a fun project, but, like all first attempts, very frustrating. I've never worked horn before, and learning to do so on my own was a real challenge.
